Question from shamiiiiiiiiii: Asked on 19/09/2008 hiya i know this doesn't have microsoft word built in but can you install it if you get the micro soft office cd student home? (the one that you sell)

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 22/09/2008
you can install other programs but this product requires 1.5 GB of hard disc and so will take up all the remaining HD space. It does come with a linux alternative already loaded if its just a word processing program you're looking for.

Question from n4nik: Asked on 13/09/2008 Do itunes and photo readers need to be downloaded from the internet? I want to store and buy music and download my photos from my digital camera whilst i'm traveling.
Do you know of a specific dvd player that can be connected via the usb port? If so can i download itunes and my photo reader from the manufacturer cd's?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 15/09/2008
This isn't really the right model for storing music and pictures as it only comes with a 2GB hard drive. I'd suggest getting one of the newer models with more storage space. You can download itunes as with any other laptop and it will come with some type of picture reader. Any external hard drive will be able to be used as they connect via USB of which the EEEPC's generally come with at least a couple of these.

Question from shammi: Asked on 12/09/2008 hiya just wanted to know does this have microsoft word built in and how do you connect the printer to it (the printer thats available to buy)

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 15/09/2008
It doesn't have office but does ship with a linux alternative. It also has a couple of USB ports so connecting to any printer should be no problem.

Question from james_77: Asked on 12/09/2008 Thanks easycom. The thing is where I live we have free council wi fi which works perfectly but when it comes to use my place secure internet, I can't log in which has a netgear wi fi router. Same thing happens to a friend of mine who has an asus too. Do you think it's software problem ?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 15/09/2008
I would check with the manufacturers, Asus and Netgear. You may need to download some drivers to get the internet up and running but without more info its a little hard to say.

Question from james_77: Asked on 10/09/2008 I can't connect my asus eee pc with my Netgear wireless router. How i can do to connect to the router..

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 11/09/2008
There should be a small icon at the bottom right of the screen which looks like two computers. Click on that and it will bring up available wireless networks. Click on your network to connect. If this isn't working then you would need to contact Asus as there maybe a fault.

Question from KING: Asked on 06/09/2008 Is it possible to have some sort of parental control over the internet.... The kids will connect using my home wireless connection but I'd want some control over the content they can access on the internet...

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 08/09/2008
The internet security suite F-Secure should do the trick, as it has parental control as part of the package.

Question from Rachbach: Asked on 01/09/2008 i want one of these, and am willing to buy one, however i was wondering if i could put my memory stick in or a floppy disk or cd's?

There is no DVD drive but there are USB ports meaning you can plug in external devices such as a DVD / floppy drive or memory stick, but these do need to be bought separately.

Question from bopp: Asked on 30/08/2008 can i install adobe photoshop in asus eee pc 700, will it work?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 01/09/2008
The eepc's are meant as e-mail/internet really. Photoshop is a processor/ram hungry program and so will need a fully fledged laptop to be able to run.

Question from Shaggy: Asked on 25/08/2008 Is an anti-virus program installed and can I run a citrix session on this? Thanks.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 26/08/2008
There will be a trial version of anti-virus on the laptop to get you going.
Running a citrix session on this may be very slow as it is really built to be used as an internet/e-mail machine as the spec shows.

Question from Doug: Asked on 19/08/2008 Hi
Is it possible to install Windows XP music making software on this?
Cubase, Acid, etc, or is there anything like that for Linux?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 20/08/2008
Don't bother Doug. Having used Cuebase and Sonar for many years, I know how much ram and processing power those programs need, especially if you're using soft synths as well. This is really an internet /email machine and would struggle to handle any music software. Go for a fully fledged laptop instead.

Question from Di: Asked on 18/08/2008 Can you use i-tunes with Linux, does it come with its own Word Processor and Paint Programs installed? How about loading up photos from digital cameras? Would they all be compatible with Linux?

I tunes and photos will be fine with Linux. There is no word processor or paint but you should be able to download these from the Microsoft website.

Question from lee1: Asked on 11/08/2008 can you download photoshop cs3 onto this laptop?

Question from Jo1983: Asked on 31/03/2008 At the moment I dont have access to wireless internet. Who is the best internet provider to use & would It need to be wired up in my home to beable to use.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 01/04/2008
The EEE PC is compatible with all providers - You should look around for the best offer. The EEE PC has integrated wireless, so if you get a wireless offer from an ISP (or set up your own wireless network with a wireless router) then you will be able to go online without wires.

Question from Lyn: Asked on 30/03/2008 Hi - I am thinking of buying Asus Eee PC mainly because my work is out & about from the office most of the time. I need regular PC access to update my notes. At work my employer uses Microsoft Word 2000 programme. Is Word installed on the PC and is it compatable with Word 2000? Thank you

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 31/03/2008
No - The EEE PC uses Linux which is not supported by any Microsoft Office products. I would suggest buying a laptop with a Microsoft Windows based operating system to ensure compatibility with Microsoft Office.

Question from nick c: Asked on 29/03/2008 hi, i am interested in using this for school but i wanted to know if windows xp can be installed to it. cheers. nick c.

Question from NormK: Asked on 21/03/2008 Hi, I need a small machine to carry with me and show microsoft power point presentations that are stored on a memory stick. Will this item be able to translate and project power points via the vga? Thanks

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 25/03/2008
This machine runs Linux which has no support from Microsoft Office (which includes PowerPoint). The laptop is able to output video to external displays/projectors via the VGA port however, and it is possible to use OpenOffice (a free open-source Office program for Linux/Windows/Mac) to read and display your powerpoint files. This software may not be installed by default so may require an internet connection to enable it to download.

Question from Danny: Asked on 21/03/2008 I would use this for mainly Internet when away from home. Is there an internet cleanup programme installed so you can clear the internet cluter that slows things down? If not how can it cope without a facility like Norton to clear the clutter - also what is the virus protection options?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 25/03/2008
The mozilla-based browser that ships with this laptop is ideal for preventing self-installing browser-based 'clutter'.

Question from GU5: Asked on 16/03/2008 Is it possible to load Sat Nav onto this machine with either a usb GPS receiver or a Bluetooth receiver?

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 17/03/2008
Yes, it is possible to connect a GPS receiver to this laptop (depending on Linux driver availability). There are open source mapping applications for Linux that can operate as a point-to-point navigation system, but it is best that you look for these before purchasing the laptop to avoid disappointment.

Alternatively, you can buy a Windows-based laptop which has lots of support from big-name satellite navigation manufacturers and native support of bluetooth and USB GPS receivers.

Question from guru: Asked on 14/03/2008 Does it have a WEBCAM as i have read that 2 GB versions dont have one?

That is true, the 2GB versions do not feature a webcam.

Question from JayC: Asked on 13/03/2008 Hi there. Really interested in this item as my requirements are simply to surf the net and check emails in a more convenient location. I currently have Sky Broadband with a wireless router which I assume that this can easily be used on? I'm not that knowledgable on laptops so how to you get online when out and about? Cheers ...

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 20/03/2008
This will connect fine to your existing wireless router. For wireless networks when you're away from home, look at a subscription to Cloud/BT Openzone/etc - These are subscription wireless hotspots that have coverage in town centres and some public places. Some restaurants/cafes/pubs etc. offer their own free wireless networks for use by the public - which is a growing trend to attract customers.

Question from MaTtY-b0y: Asked on 09/03/2008 is 4gb hard drive good if i'm looking this to play games on?

Question from Tim: Asked on 08/03/2008 How much space is left on the flash drive of the 2 GB version of the Eee after installation of OS and software? My needs are specific and quite limited as I just need to log data on a series (maybe 4 or 5) of spreadsheets. If this machine is adequate there would be no point in paying extra for the 4 GB version. Thanks.

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 08/03/2008
The operating system and installed software take about 1.6GB, leaving 400MB left. I'm not sure how much space it's possible to free up by removing any pre-installed software that you dont need...

Question from julian: Asked on 07/03/2008 Hi im intrested in this computer, can you please advise does it come with msn messenger, or can it downloaded onto the machine? Thanks

Question from wilsonjohnhaire: Asked on 06/03/2008 can it be connected to portable broadband by a dongle with a usb cable like Vodafone and 3 is advertising? And can I continue to use my gmail address

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 06/03/2008
Unfortunately the 3G dongles from Vodafone do not support Linux, which is the operating system of the EEE PC. It is able to connect to wireless and wired networks, however - and will handle your gmail needs.

Question from david: Asked on 03/03/2008 Hi, I am interested in this machine as a light and cheap machine for traveling so that I can browse and use email. I don't need it for anything else.

I want internet connection on the move. Some mobile phone companies have USB connectors that allow laptop wireless connection. Is the ASUS OK for this? Also, will the ASUS scan for hotspots?

What office suite does it comes with? If I email a doc as an attachment, can Windows read it? Can Mac OS read it?

For what I have described I want it for, I cannot immediately think why I might need 4GB. What programs are available (I am not interested in Windows) that one might consider must-haves?

thanks

Answer from Easycom: Answered on 03/03/2008
They come with all the basic open source software that you would need, you should be able to read all documents in Windows as well. The laptop has a built in 802.11b/g wireless card which would be able to scan for hotspots, or you could use a USB connection for any other type of network, such as a bluetooth stick.

You don't need to 'install' your wireless router on this - The laptop ships with all the drivers it needs to connect to wireless networks.

Question from PeterE: Asked on 07/02/2008 Hi, I'm thinking of buying one of these (Asus Eee PC2GS). I really wanted the 4GB version but there just aren't any in the country that I can find. If I get this 2GB version with a 4 or 8GB SD card how will it compare on performance. Thanks.
