"Great software bundle, superior design and build quality, excellent value." - Computer Shopper - December 2008

The new Sony Vaio FW11E is designed for superb multimedia entertainment.

On board is a fast and efficient ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 card with 256MB of dedicated VRAM for seriously smooth 3D graphics. That makes the FW a great choice for watching DVD’s, playing games and creating fun presentations.

With its large size, 1600x900 resolution (WXGA++) and true 16:9 aspect ratio, the stunning widescreen display offers the best possible digital media experience.

Ultra efficient Intel Core 2 Duo Processor technology optimises battery life and ensures more reliable wireless connectivity. Finished in durable and lightweight magnesium alloy, the thin-walled exterior of the FW keeps weight low while ensuring rugged protection.

Question from Steven: Asked on 10/12/2008 Will the laptop's power supply run in both the UK and the US (with a plug adapter)? If not what would I need to get to get the power supply to work?

Answer from Matt: Answered on 11/12/2008
It will run with just a travel adapter as the AC adapter will detect the voltage and do the rest automatically.

Question from Steph: Asked on 02/12/2008 The widescreen is a good idea for watching films, but when playing games does the screen adapt or are there black lines on either side of the usable area? Would you recomend this or the toshiba a300-15b as a part-time gaming laptop?

Answer from SteveF: Answered on 03/12/2008
The screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 so it will show the full picture with no lines unless the film you're watching has a lower ratio which can happen. Both of those are good part time gaming laptops.

Question from Bob: Asked on 29/10/2008 In one of the questions you state that it is a "sealed unit" does this mean that if some internal component fails then it has to be thrown away?

Answer from SteveF: Answered on 30/10/2008
No, it means that unlike a desktop, the internal components are not upgradable and are in effect sealed in, unlike a plug and play card which you can swap around. If an internal component breaks then I'd get it looked at first before throwing it away.

This card has similar 3D Mark scores as the Geforce 6800 Ultra. It should play most things without difficulty but still a long way off the very latest top end graphics cards.
